Protecting your valuables from fire damage is just as important as protecting them from theft. Papers will char at temperatures around 400 and guns are damaged from temperatures exceeding 500. To protect contents during a fire, the internal temperature of the safe should remain below 350. There is no industry standard for fire ratings, but the Browning ProSteel Safes fire testing methods are regarded as one of the most rigorous in the industry.


  • Body Thickness

    Body Thickness - Steel Gauge Chart

    Body Thickness is the thickness of the steel used to make the safe body. A smaller gauge number means thicker steel, which provides more security and fire protection. Browning ProSteel Safes are made from 3/16" to 12 Gauge steel.

  • Layers of Insulation

    Layers of Insulation

    Layers of insulation help provide a fire barrier. Browning ProSteel Safes use thick gypsum panels for fire protection. As gypsum is heated, it releases water vapor and cools the interior of the safe. More layers mean better the fire resistance of the safe.

  • Palusol Fire Seal

    Palusol Seal

    A Palusol fire seal around the entire inside perimeter of the safe door expands to nearly 7 times its size when heated. This seal increases the fire resistance and protects your valuables from water damage that might occur in fire-fighting efforts.
